Chris Gaylord

Chris Gaylord

Chris Gaylord came to the Humane Society of New York hoping to volunteer; one year later, he has received news that he has been accepted at the prestigious College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He will be leaving us in September of this year, and we wish him the best.  Since the winter of 2007, Chris has worked as a Veterinary Assistant, and he believes the experience he gained at the Humane Society of New York has thoroughly prepared him for anything he may encounter in Veterinary School.

Though he claims to have “randomly walked in off the street,” Chris came to the Humane Society of New York with extensive experience working with some very exotic animals.  While completing his master's degree at Hunter College , Chris researched the source of maternal styles and parenting behaviors in the primates of Belize and Nicaragua.

Chris says he has learned much from observing and assisting our doctors, but he believes the most valuable impression he will take from his time at the Humane Society of New York is our commitment to provide quality medicine at low cost to those in need. Having seen the strain that veterinary fees can put on disadvantaged families, Chris understands the potential financial burden of pet ownership and the importance of non-profit organizations like the Humane Society of New York to low-income pet owners. He hopes to share our goal of offering affordable animal care throughout his professional career.

We would like to thank Chris for all the work he has done for the Humane Society of New York. We know Chris will make an excellent Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and his future patients will be fortunate to have such a capable and compassionate doctor caring for their pets. We are proud to say many of our Veterinary Assistants have gone on to Veterinary School and now are practicing doctors.
