In his life and his work, great American photographer Herb Ritts was drawn to clean lines and strong forms. In addition to sensitive portraits of every celebrity from Elizabeth Taylor to the Dalai Lama, he produced exciting fashion editorials for Vogue, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Interview...as well as award-winning music videos and TV commercials. His numerous advertising clients include Chanel, Donna Karan, Versace, Levi’s, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. His work has been exhibited worldwide, and is in many prestigious collections. Throughout his life he worked tirelessly for HIV/AIDS related causes and was on the Board of Directors of the Elton John Aids Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of this Herb Ritts photograph will go to a designated fund at the Humane Society of New York. This fund will provide medical assistance at the Society's Clinic for the companion animals of individuals with HIV and AIDS.
Herb Ritts began his photographic career in the late 70's, and quickly gained an international reputation as a master of fine art and commercial photography. In addition to producing memorable portraits and timely editorial fashion layouts, he also created many successful advertising campaigns. In addition, Mr. Ritts directed numerous influential and award-winning music videos and commercials. His fine art photography has been the subject of museum and gallery exhibitions worldwide, with his works residing in many significant public and private collections. Herb Ritts passed away on December 26, 2002 due to complications from HIV/AIDS.

Herb Ritts Foundation

During his lifetime, Herb Ritts committed himself greatly to HIV/AIDS related causes, and contributed to many charities. The Herb Ritts Foundation continues in Herb's longstanding support of the causes dear to him by funding organizations that provide assistance and care for those affected by HIV and AIDS. As well, the Foundation promotes Herb's great passion for photography through offering assistance to institutions with educational programs that advance the art of photography.
