Endoscopy allows a visual examination of internal organs such as the stomach, lungs, and intestines, without invasive exploratory surgery. Endoscopy is the preferred technique for removing foreign bodies that have been ingested (as shown in the X-ray to the left). HSNY is proud to offer this advanced diagnostic and surgical technique.

Exotic Pet Care
Veterinary care for exotic species is different than dog and cat medicine. Veterinary specialists in avian and exotic species medicine have made the extra commitment to undergo extensive additional training in the diagnosis, treatment and care of diseases in birds and other exotic pets. This training is beyond that of the traditional veterinarian. While many dog/cat veterinarians possess an interest in exotic animal medicine, that does not necessarily equal proficiency in treating them. The treatment of diseases in exotic species without the proper background knowledge can result in serious harm to the animal. Dr. Malka is a board-certified bird specialist. He is one of only approximately 150 bird specialists in the world.

When our doctors determine that surgery is required, the Humane Society of New York offers comprehensive soft tissue and basic orthopedic procedures, as well as low-cost spay and neuter services.

We recommend that your pet have regular dental checkups at least once a year. Many critical health issues such as cardiac, renal, and liver disease, can be avoided with proper pet dental care.

How to Schedule Dental Work: An initial exam is required. Call us at 212-752-4840 to schedule the appointment. Depending on the age of the pet, the Society's doctor will determine if a pre-dentistry blood test or other procedure may be necessary.
